Metro Linen Service is an environmentally friendly business; we reuse, reclaim, and recycle. Metro Linen reuses its products opposed to sending them to the landfill after each use. Metro Linen distributes approximately 14 million napkins a year that in turn keeps well over 14 million paper or disposable napkins from entering landfills each year. Almost every product replaces a disposable competitive and to some degree comparable product.
Not only do we help prevent the expansions of our landfills,we also save on water usage. For each pound of laundry Metro Linen cleans, we use 1.6 gallons of water per pound compared to as much as 4 gallons seen in comparable methods of laundering. Metro Linen cleans approximately 13 million pounds of laundry a year. This equates to 20 million gallons of water used instead of the 52 million gallons used in standard washing methods. Not only is a minimal amount of water used, Metro Linen also has plans to recycle the last rinse cycle water for use in the next wash program. In addition, we recapture the heat from the wash water and use it to pre-heat the water that fills our hot water tanks. This raises the water temperature a minimum of 40 degrees, which saves on the energy, used to heat the water.
Over all, the linen service business is an environmentally friendly business and always looks for ways to help promote a healthy environment. |
